Bio

Re the artist – I quote Tony Gill

“Rex Backhaus-Smith has a deep love and understanding of the Outback and has cemented a considerable artistic career firmly grounded in that landscape and culture. Although he has travelled to all corners of the globe he always returns to portraying the bush he grew up in.

He is an artist of rightful renown, which is testament to the man himself. He has exhibited across Australia in both urban and regional major galleries, and his works are to be found in significant public and private collections.”

Condition Report   Condition is excellent – just a slight lifting of the original framing tape on the back which you can see here, is the only mark against it. It has been hanging on a wall in our house with no strong light to fade it. Please note that whilst we endeavour to mention any imperfection, the absence of this information in the catalogue does not automatically imply that the lot is free from defect.

Provenance Private collection, Sunshine Coast Queensland.

Purchased by us at auction in Maleny, maybe 2010 at an auction to raise money for the journalist Michael Berry.

On the back of the painting are two stickers – one on the left saying REX BACKHAUS-SMITH; one on the right – one from Schubert Galleries on the Gold Coast. No date is in evidence anywhere
