Discover our heritage along with numerous ‘Art in Public Spaces’ artworks.
Welcome to the Mapleton Art and History Trail. There are numerous historical sites in Mapleton, along with some outstanding public art. Over many years, art has been added to the streets of Mapleton. corrugated iron sculptures, murals, artwork prints and designer chairs.
The ‘Art in Public Spaces’ is a living project as things come and things go.

Walk the streets of Mapleton and drive a few blocks to discover the creativity and history of the northern Blackall Range.

Following are some of the examples you will see

Mapleton’s Ocean View Hotel was built for William Rosser in 1909 and officially opened in January 1910. Over the years the name changed to Mapleton Tavern and more recently to Mapleton Public House. It is a historic Queenslander-style building.
Located at the corner of Obi Obi Road and Flaxton Drive
Lays its eggs on wattle species of this region. But females will only lay eggs on host plants that have the right species of ants. The caterpillars secrete a substance which the ants like. The ants provide protection from predators. This is why the caterpillars can feed freely during the day time.
Located Mapleton Pharmacy
The building currently occupied by the Mapleton Pharmacy was built in 1924 and has a varied history, serving several different purposes in the local community over the past century: a bakery, a private house, a fish and chip shop and a building designer’s office. The Mapleton Pharmacy relocated to this historic site in 2009.
Located on Obi Obi Road
St Isidore’s is a heritage-listed homestead at 40 Post Office Road, Mapleton. It was built from c. 1900 to c. 1913 by James Blair Cramb. It is also known as Mapleton Homestead, Seaview House, and St Isidore’s Farm College. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 July 2000.

Information indicates that the 2/7th Australian Cavalry Regiment (and related units) had training and staging areas in the Queensland region, including in the vicinity of the Atherton Tablelands and, in 1942, areas near Landsborough/Caloundra/Mapleton prior to their deployment to Papua.
These buildings, which were once part of the Forestry, are now the home of the Mapleton Men’s Shed. On top of the sign pictured is a family of Australi brush turkeys designed and created by Jeff Jordan. Jeff generously donated these for the Mapleton Art and History Trail.
Located at the corner of Delicia and Mapleton Forest Roads
The Old School House, also known as TOSH, was originally constructed as the residence for the school Head Teacher (now known as the Principal) in 1916. It was moved to its current site at 17 Obi Obi Rd in 1997 following community pressure. The Department of Education at that time had the building marked for demolition or removal but was persuaded to liaise with the Maroochy Shire Council to save the building. Currently houses the RangeCare OpShop.

A beautiful mural painted in 2025 by Tom Davies and assisted by his girlfriend Ellie. Features many of the local fauna species.


‘Memories of Old Mapleton’ Artist: Keith Blake
This painting hangs inside the Mapleton Library Community Centre. Featured is the pear tree, Shay engine and the Mapleton Tavern.
You may view this artwork during Library Community Centre hours.

These animals were constructed by Gordon Sherriff, a Mapleton resident. Located at Flaxton Drive and Obi Obi Road intersection

Painting on the Mapleton Bowls Club Water Tank
Painted by members of the Blackall Range Visual Artists and gifted to the Bowls Club. The theme is the lilypond adjacent to the water tank.
