Ambrose Griffin, (1912 – 1980), no title, oil on canvas board. Overall = 75cm wide x 55cm high and it is mounted on a 90cm high x 70cm wide frame.

Signed located in faint red in the bottom left hand corner. It is undated but I know, for certain that it was painted in 1976 as it was still incomplete when I offered to buy it.  There is no further information on the back of the work.

Est:  $2,500 – $3,500 AUD

Reserve: $2,000 AUD

Medium: oil on canvas board

Condition Report:  The painting itself is in reasonably good condition but may need some slight restoration in the bottom right hand corner due to classic, almost invisible, maize cracking. Please note that whilst we endeavour to mention any imperfection, the absence of this information in the catalogue does not automatically imply that the lot is free from defect.

Provenance: Private collection, Sunshine Coast, Queensland

I purchased the painting in 1976, direct from the artist, Ambrose Griffin, at his property in Sherbrooke, Dandenong Ranges, Vic.  Ambrose had a 10 acre, beautiful residence and on the land He had a few head of ornamental animals including a draught horse named “Barney”.

His painting is of two draft horses heads using Barney as a model for both.  Quite a departure from his usual landscape and still life works.
