Bio
I’ve lived and worked in western Queensland all my life, and have travelled extensively throughout the Australian outback, deriving my subject matter from many different areas, from the centre to the shores. My landscape paintings sometimes zoom out to the distant view, sometimes hone in to particular features and inhabitants (birds, plants, rocks), sometimes they are quite detailed, other paintings are reduced to blends of colour. Different times of day and different subjects offer different ‘moods’ or ways of painting. Exploration is an important part of my work, I like to ask myself ‘what if’ so I like to try different materials and approaches to the subject, and I like to think that place dictates the final result.
I studied with Mervyn Moriarty and other tutors of the well-known Flying Art School for many years. My first solo exhibition was in 1986, and up to the present I’ve had over 20 solos in both metropolitan and regional Queensland as well as contributing to many group exhibitions.
